RETIREMENT ACTIVITES IN GLEN EIRA

U3A stands for University of the Third Age, and is a "university" in the original sense of the word: a community of people devoted to learning.  We are a volunteer cooperative of older people who share many educational, creative and leisure activities.  Being in your Third Age is the only qualification needed to participate.  Come along and live, learn and enjoy something new and interesting, and socialise with like-minded people.  Come on, log in and join up!

Did you know ...

We played “King of the Hill” on piles of gravel left on vacant building sites and if we got hurt Mum used a 2/6p bottle of iodine and then we got spanked. Now it’s a trip to the emergency room followed by a 10-day dose of antibiotics then mum calls the lawyer to sue the builder for leaving the gravel where it was such a threat!

TECHNOLOGY CORNER  Scheduled for this Fri 22 Sep, has been cancelled due to school holidays and members indicating their absence this week.  We will be back again on Fri 27 Oct from 1:00 - 3:00 pm in Media Room 41.  In the meantime, have a nice break!

Each episode of this 15-part series will have its own presenter.

Wanted!

We are always in need of volunteers office staff.  Are you able to help?  If you can, please ring the Office on 9570 3929 and have a chat with one of our volunteers.  On-the-job training provided, manuals and checklists available - everything to make the job smooth and fun.

 

Front Office Receptionist:  Are you available for 3 hours a week or fortnight?  Choose your shift - mornings or afternoons.  Be a friend to our Senior Citizens.  Are you able to access emails?  Can you find your way around an information directory?  Do you have good people and telephone skills?  If so, then we need you!  Contact details above.

We are currently experiencing requests for more classes in some areas than our team of tutors can manage.  If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be interested in presenting classes in these areas, we would love to hear from you:

 

Computer Tutor:  Able to listen and relate to older citizens
A good level capability with computers (ie, able to access emails and scroll around data bases, etc for information
2 - 4 hrs weekly or fortnightly.

 

Oil Painting Tutor:  Our current oil painting tutor has had to retire due to family reasons and we are looking
for a tutor to take over in Semester 2 in July
10 - 12 pm on Tuesdays.

 

Water Colour Painting Tutor:  Again taking over in July on Tuesdays from 1 - 3 pm
There is a mixture of newbies that started this year as well as members that have been in the class for some time.
