Used spectacles are the gift of sight for someone in a developing country
You’ve probably noticed the collection box adjacent to Reception. Have you ever wondered “what happens to all those used specs?”
Well, let me tell you, because it’s a fascinating story.
Your pre-loved glasses are picked up from U3A Bentleigh and delivered to an aid agency, where they are sorted, graded by prescription, packaged and sent to a developing country.
When they arrive, an eye-care professional will then match and distribute them to children and adults with visual impairment.
A pair of specs can be the difference between a child going to school, or missing out on an education.
Aren’t you happy now that you donated your used specs? Any more lying around?

We happily accept children and adult glasses of all shapes and sizes (in good condition only, please).
However, we cannot accept glass cases of any type.
