Subject: Opportunity for U3A members to adjudicate school debates

Hi there,

I am writing on behalf of the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV), a non-profit organisation that administers school debating and public speaking competitions throughout Victoria.

The success of our programs and competitions relies on having a group of dedicated adjudicators to judge debates and provide feedback to student participants. Historically, the majority of our adjudicators are university students who previously participated in our programs, but we are keen to recruit new adjudicators from different groups and demographics.

As such, we would like to offer your network of retired and senior Victorians the opportunity to become involved with our organisation and provide an invaluable educational service for Victorian school students.  It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills, give back to the community, and meet new people.

No experience is required, as we provide full training and mentoring for our new adjudicators. The only initial requirement is to obtain a Victorian Working with Children check, but the DAV reimburses the cost in two instalments according to the number of debates attended.

If you think this might be of interest to your network, we encourage you to share the attached document that includes details for how people can express interest to learn more and sign up for training. It also includes a position description that provides additional information about adjudicating.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
