Developed by tutor Hans-Jurgen Sonntag, and assisted by Michael Bonacci, the course is designed to inform you about common threats such as hacking, phishing and systemic spying involving “smart” devices such as your phone, laptop, TV, Amazon Echo, Google Nest, your brand-new … and not forgetting your new fridge! What happens after your data has left your devices? How can external players such as commercial operators, criminal groups, political parties and special interest or activist groups target and manipulate you with that data to further their particular agendas (environmental, anti-immigration, anti-abortion, etc)?

You will discover how to change your practices and secure your devices to reduce the chances of criminal and financial abuse, or outside manipulation. The course will require some homework, such as taking particular steps to better secure your logon details, turn off entire categories of spying, and may include watching specific YouTube clips.
